La Ghriba (Tunisia): History, Legend and Customs, with Dr. Ruth F. Davis

Last week we talked about the annual pilgrimage to La Ghriba synagogue, on the island of Djerba in Tunisia, which we attended as part of a group of international journalists invited by the Tunisian Ministry of Tourism. While we were there we met Dr. Ruth F. Davis of Cambridge University. She is an ethnomusicologist who has done extensive research in mainland Tunisia and the island of Djerba, and she spoke with us about the history, legends and customs of the Ghriba, and also about Djerba’s Jewish community.
