ENGLISH CORNER, CON LINDA JIMÉNEZ – This week’s trivia question: What is the Shalom organization, and what do they do?

When people think of the Jewish community in Bulgaria, they often think of its history, both before and during the Holocaust.  Many are not aware that there is a small but thriving community there now.  On a recent trip to Bulgaria we met with Maxim Delchev, the President of the Religious Community of the Jews in Bulgaria. Mr Delchev is also an Educational Director of «Shalom” – The Organization of the Jews in Bulgaria. We met at the 4-storey Jewish cultural center in Sofia, which is currently being renovated.  Mr. Delchev spoke with us about the Bulgarian community and the activities and services that they enjoy.
