ENGLISH CORNER, CON LINDA JIMÉNEZ – This week’s trivia question: How do trees benefit from having other plants around them?
This week we celebrate Tu B’Shevat, the 15th day of the Jewish month of Shevat, which is the New Year for trees. In Israel the day is celebrated as an ecological awareness day, and trees are planted in celebration. This week we are going to hear about a widespread grassroots movement–no pun intended (really)–that also involves planting trees, and other plants, in public spaces.
Sara Casado is a native of Madrid and has been involved in neighborhood gardening for many years. This week she is speaking with us about planting in tree pits, in Madrid as well as in other cities and countries.
