The Institute for Jewish Studies Barcelona, with Dr. Ze’ev Maor

ENGLISH CORNER, CON LINDA JIMÉNEZ – This week’s trivia question: Which Jewish culture does the Institute focus on? And which non-Jewish culture?

The Institute for Jewish Studies Barcelona was founded in 2023 by a group of cultural activists with the logistic support of: Paideia – Institute for Jewish Studies in Sweden and Mozaika – Plataforma cultural judía in Barcelona. As of July 2024, the Institute operates as an independent non-profit association. It is committed to nurturing the renewal of Jewish culture in Catalonia, Spain and Europe as a cultural minority within European societies. They do this by offering a number of different programs to students, researchers, educators and the general public.

Dr. Ze’ev Maor is the head and academic director of the Institute. He grew up in Jerusalem and lives in Barcelona. He holds a Masters degree in Architecture and Urban Studies from Universitat Politécnica de Catalunya in Barcelona, a Masters degree in Environmental Philosophy from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and a PhD in Philosophy from the European Graduate School in Switzerland.

This week we are speaking with Dr. Maor about the Institute for Jewish Studies and next week he will tell us in more detail about one of their special programs.
