René Mayer (I): A Post-War European Jew

ENGLISH CORNER, CON LINDA JIMÉNEZ – This week’s trivia question:  Where did the Jewish community in Madrid hold services before the synagogue was built in 1968?

René Mayer was born in France in 1947.  He is best known for his lifelong dedication to chess–he has won championships and written a number of books on the subject. Aside from this, he has led a very interesting and somewhat adventurous life.  This week we are speaking with him about some of his experiences, and next week he will tell us about his life as a chess professional and a new, unrelated, project that he is working on.
